Cherry Angioma

Description

  • A cherry angioma is a small, bright red to purple bump made up of tiny blood vessels. They are very common, especially after age 30, and can appear anywhere on the body—most often on the chest, abdomen, arms, or legs. These growths are benign (non-cancerous) and usually do not cause symptoms. Some may flatten or darken over time.

When should I come in?Ā

You may want to schedule a visit if:

  • A cherry angioma suddenly changes in size, shape, or color.

  • It becomes irritated, itchy, or bleeds frequently.

  • You are uncertain if the growth is truly a cherry angioma versus another lesion.

  • You want it removed for cosmetic reasons.

At Integrity Skin & DermCare, removal procedures are performed with precision and attention to minimizing scarring while ensuring your skin health is protected.

How are they treated?

  • No treatment is necessary unless the angioma is bothersome.

  • If removal is desired for cosmetic reasons or because the angioma bleeds easily, options may include:

    • Electrocautery (cauterization) – gently seals the blood vessel.

    • Laser treatment – targets the red color with minimal damage to surrounding skin.

    • Shave removal – sometimes used if the angioma is raised.

  • These treatments are safe and quick, with minimal downtime.
